February 27, (THEWILL) – Amid the crisis rocking the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly, all security officials around the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, have allegedly been withdrawn.
Meranda emerged first female speaker of the Lagos legislature on January 13, 2025, following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa. However, Obasa has challenged the legitimacy of his removal, insisting due process was not followed and maintaining that he remained the rightful speaker.
While the Assembly on February 17, passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of Speaker Meranda, in a surprising development on Thursday, the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Information, Victor Ganzallo, expressed deep concern over the withdrawal of her security personnel.
Warning that the Speaker is now “vulnerable and open to attack”, Ganzallo said, “All security has been withdrawn from the Speaker, and she is now on her own.”
Meanwhile, authorities in the State, including the Lagos State Police Command, have not issued any statement on the development.
