The police said investigations into the incident have been concluded and the suspect will soon be charged to court in accordance with the law. The Command added that efforts are continuing to identify and apprehend other persons who may have participated in creating or disseminating the content.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the use of social media platforms to spread unverified security information capable of causing public panic and disrupting peace.

The Command, however, assured residents that there is no security threat warranting alarm, maintaining that the security situation across Akwa Ibom State remains calm, stable and under control.

It stated that police and other security agencies have sustained proactive security measures across the state to protect lives and property while maintaining vigilance against criminal activities.

The police further warned members of the public against creating, publishing or sharing unverified security alerts, fake news and misleading information, stressing that such actions constitute criminal offences under the law.

Residents were advised to verify security-related information through official channels and credible sources before sharing such reports.

The Command also urged citizens to remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious activities or genuine security concerns to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.
