January 22, (THEWILL) – The Borno State Police Command has arrested one Ahmed Umar Goni, a 16-year-old Senior Secondary school student of Elkenemi Islamic College of Theology, Maiduguri for attempted murder.
Umar, an SS II student, allegedly slit the throat of an 11-year-old JSS 1 student, Jubril Sadi Mato, with a razor blade at about 10:00 pm on Saturday night.
Jubril was, however, immediately rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where surgery was conducted on him.
Narrating the incident, the principal of the junior section of the school, Kashim Ibrahim Abdullahi said: “This incident happened in the night and was after the prep time. I was in my house in the quarters of the Elkanemi College when the students ran to me and said somebody was bleeding terribly. So, I picked my car and rushed the boy to the state specialist hospital where the doctor referred us to the trauma center here in the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
“The child has been given a befitting treatment and an operation before he was brought to the Intensive Care Unit.”
Family sources say Jubril’s vocal cavity was affected by the injury but he has been able to scribble some details of what happened on the night he was assaulted.
His parents, who live in Yobe State, said they had received a disturbing call on Sunday morning from the school authority asking them to come over.
“Though in critical condition, he is breathing normally, I thank God that he is still breathing. The person who did this thing to him must be a serious criminal. This is a heinous crime to get hold of a small boy like this and slit his throat it’s terrible. The CID came and they met me here and I am sure they are on top of it”, his guardian said..
However, addressing newsmen at a press briefing held at the police headquarters, Maiduguri on Friday, the Borno state commissioner of Police, CP Abdu Umar said, “on 16th January, 2022 at about 0930hrs, one Ibrahim Abdulkadir ‘m’, the CSO of El-Kanemi College of Islamic Theology Maiduguri, reported at Bulumkutu Division that, on 15th January, 2022 at about 2200hrs, one Ahmed Umar Goni ‘m’ 16yrs old, an SSII student of the College, inflicted a deep cut on one Jibrin Sadi Mato ‘m’ 11yrs old a Pre-JSS student with a razor blade on his neck.”
CP Abdu Umar said the incident occurred at the college hostel, when the victim sustained a deep cut on the neck and was admitted into UMTH Intensive Care Unit, adding that the suspect has been arrested and confessed to the policeman’s that he did the act because he was not pleased being a boarding student and that he committed the act so that he would be sent out of the hostel.
Also paraded was a 35 year old humanitarian worker, who was arrested for alleged rape and murder of a 14-year-old teenage IDP, Aishatu Sani.
“Husaif Abdulrauf ‘m’ of 303 Housing Estate area, Maiduguri. On 18/01/2022 at about 1315hrs, one Aisha Sani A.K.A Ummi ‘f’ of Kaleri area, Maiduguri, reported at Gwange Division that on the same date at about 1000hrs, the suspect deceived her younger sister, Aisha Mohammed Adam ‘f’ 18yrs old of the same address, a house helper, lured her into his room at 303 Housing Estate and was alleged to have had sexual intercourse with her. Later the victim was said to have stabbed herself with a kitchen knife in her stomach as a result”, the CP added.
He further explained that the deceased sustained serious injury and while rushing the victim to UMTH by the suspect in his Honda Accord car with Reg. No. KRD 116 DJ – LAGOS, he recklessly drove against traffic and hit one Nasiru Suleiman ‘m’ 30yrs old of Mairi Kuwait area Maiduguri.
“Both victims were rushed to UMTH where Aisha Mohammed Adam ‘f’ gave up the ghost while Nasiru Suleiman was admitted and that investigation in progress”, he said.
Others paraded was 13-year-old Abdullahi Sanusi, from Dikichari area, Maiduguri for culpable homicide. The suspect was arrested for using sharp knife used for cutting sugar cane to stab a 19-year-old Mohammed Abdullahi of Gidan Dambe which as a result the victim sustained serious injury.
“On the 19/01/2022 at about 1730hrs, one Bulama Abba Mohammed of Dikichari area, Maiduguri, reported at Gwange Police Station that, on the same date at about 1700hrs, one Abdullahi Sanusi ‘m’ 13yrs of the same address used a sharp knife which he was using to cut sugar cane and stabbed one Mohammed Abdullahi ‘m’ 19yrs on his neck at Mallawan in Gidan Dambe area.
As a result, victim sustained serious injury., CP Umar stated.
He confirmed that the victim was rushed to UMTH for treatment but later died on the same date and that the suspect alleged that the deceased forcefully took away his sugar cane and refused to pay and when the suspect demanded for his money, the deceased started beating him as a resulted of which the suspect stabbed the victim with a knife, adding that investigation is still ongoing.
Others suspects arrested for various offences range from criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, kidnapping, forgery, vandalism, fraud, cheating, among others.
