SAN FRANCISCO, August 03, (THEWILL) – The Delta State Police Command said it has arrested two suspects who allegedly stole some birds from a poultry farm belonging to a former Delta State acting governor, Sam Obi, in Emuhu-Agbor, Delta State.
The suspects were intercepted with a truck load of turkeys suspected to have been stolen from Royent Farm, Emuhu Agbor, along the Asaba/Benin expressway, the Delta Police Command spokesperson, Celestine Kalu, said.
According to the police image-maker, one Wilfred Okeghene and one other person from Royent Farm, Agbor had reported the theft of the birds on July 27 at about 22:00hrs by suspected hoodlums, whom she said invaded the farm and tied the duo and stole about 500 turkeys.
However, “on 28th July, 2014, at about 05:00hrs, operatives of Dragon Patrol Team 02 on duty along Asaba/Benin Expressway intercepted one L300 bus, Reg. No. XC 755 ATN driven by one Ezenwa Nwachukwu, loaded with suspected stolen poultry and handed him over to SARS office Asaba for investigation,” she said.
She said the suspect, during interrogation by SARS detectives, confessed to the crime and mentioned his accomplice.
The suspect, according to the police image-maker, led detectives to Ekwuoma town where the said accomplice, one Dominic Wayas, was also arrested.
She listed items recovered from the suspects to include over 800 poultry, 95 crates of eggs, one fireman generator and two L.G Plasma television sets, suspected to be properties of THISDAY Newspapers. Also recovered was one heavy duty motor Jack, one lorry tyre, a motorcycle, one motor battery, two motor kick starters and 50 litres of diesel.
She said however that investigation had revealed that the birds were robbed from various farms in Agbor.
Meanwhile, 358 live and 135 dead birds have been identified and handed over to Royent Farms Agbor, while 222 live and 50 dead birds were equally identified and handed over to Lawisco Farms.
While maintaining that investigation was still going on, she added that the suspects will be soon be arraigned in court at the conclusion of investigation.
