Police Claim IGP Was Misquoted On Release Of Leah Sharibu But Video Evidence Proves Otherwise

BEVERLY HILLS, March 25, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Police Force, in reaction to some media reports that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris, stated that the last Dapchi school girl, Leah Sharibu, will be released soon, has declared that the IGP was “misunderstood and misquoted.”

THEWILL recalls that IGP Idris had while addressing journalists on Saturday at the Military Command and Control Center in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, said he had to shelve his visit to Dapchi in Yobe State where Boko Haram reportedly abducted over 100 students of the Government Girls Technical College because of her imminent return.

“I am supposed to go to Dapchi today, let me be sincere with you but because of the girl (Leah Sharibu) that I learnt here will be released today,” he said.

“It is a sort of understanding that we don’t create much security (anxiety) there. By the time I fly (in a helicopter) there, they will think I’m trying to break the arrangements and that is why I had to postpone the visit to Dapchi.”

But reacting, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Jimoh Moshood, in a statement on Sunday, regretted that some media reports misconstrued the statement credited to the nation’s police boss partly because residents of the area anxiously awaited the safe return of the already released students.

“The misunderstanding may be a result of the already released Dapchi School girls expected back home in Yobe State today but could not arrive due to weather condition. The IGP could not also proceed to Dapchi because of same weather condition,” he stated.

“Members of the public and the media (should) disregard the purported statement as not what the IGP meant” declaring that the police has no information yet on the release of the last Dapchi school girl.

However, a video seen by THEWILL has shown that the Moshood was not being truthful when he said the IGP was “misunderstood and misquoted” because Idris actually confirmed that Sharibu was on her way back.
