February 18, (THEWILL) — Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old suspected armed robber and recovered live ammunition and other incriminating items in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat violent crime in the state.
The suspect, identified as Wisdom Eyo, a native of Afaha Obong in Abak Local Government Area, was apprehended at about 4:50 a.m. on Tuesday, following actionable intelligence received by security operatives.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the arrest underscores the Command’s intensified intelligence-led policing strategy aimed at dismantling criminal networks and preventing armed robbery attacks.
Items recovered from the suspect at the time of arrest include three rounds of 9mm calibre ammunition, one round of 7.5mm ammunition, a face mask, a pen knife, large motor bearings, and objects suspected to be charms.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly obtained the ammunition from outside the state, specifically from Edo State and Bayelsa State, raising concerns about inter-state arms movement and criminal collaboration.
Police sources disclosed that the suspect has made useful statements aiding ongoing investigations, as detectives work to uncover the full scope of his alleged activities and identify possible accomplices.
Security analysts note that the early morning operation may have averted a potential armed robbery incident, particularly given the nature of the recovered ammunition and concealment items.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Akwa Ibom State, emphasising proactive surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid response operations as critical pillars of its crime-fighting strategy.
