December 15, (THEWILL) — The Ogun State Police Command has intensified security operations across the state to ensure the safety of lives and property during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The Command also reiterated its ban on the use of knockouts and fireworks, warning that their loud sounds could be mistaken for gunshots and trigger panic during the festive period.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Monday.
According to Babaseyi, the Command has directed all Divisional Police Officers and tactical teams to step up patrols and police visibility in residential areas, markets, motor parks, places of worship, hospitals, and along major highways throughout the celebrations.
He urged parents and guardians to caution their children against the use of fireworks, noting that such acts could cause public disturbance, injuries, or damage to property. He warned that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, called on residents to celebrate peacefully, obey the law, and cooperate fully with the police and other security agencies.
The Commissioner assured members of the public of adequate security before, during, and after the festive period.
