LATE PROFESSOR FESTUS IYAYI
SAN FRANCISCO, November 29, (THEWILL) – The burial arrangement for the former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), late Professor Festus Iyayi, has been released.
The Chairman of the burial committee, Sir. Ohiowele Lawrence, said in a statement that Iyayi’s journey to mother earth will begin on Thursday with a vigil mass at his Number 1 Bello Way, Isihor residence in Benin City.
This, the committee said, will be followed by a tribute and literary session by members of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANAN).
On Friday, the body will lie in state, briefly, at his residence in Benin City before leaving for UNIBEN where it will again lie in state inside the auditorium of the University before proceeding to his home town, Ugbegun,in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to the committee, there he will lie in state once again while another tribute and literary session will be held in his honour. A funeral service will commence on Saturday at 10 am at his country home residence after which interment will follow at about 12 noon.
Entertainment of guests, the statement added, will thereafter follow at Ugbegun School Compound while on Sunday, a thanksgiving/outing service and refreshment would hold.
Iyayi said no government interest in the burial programme has been received so far
