
June 28, (THEWILL) – Everton Football Academy of Ikolo, on Monday, produced a superb performance to record a famous 4-1 win over Overcoming Lamb Assembly FC in the Bayelsa State Governor’s Football Tournament, aka Prosperity Cup, in a matchday 16 encounter decided at the Bishop Dimieari Grammar School centre.
The Ikolo-based side had already taken the scalps of Swali FC and Boki Joy FC in the tournament but the win over Overcoming Lamb Assembly is of much greater significance.
Godgift Otubo put Everton FC ahead 15 minutes into the game from close range, having controlled proceedings. Noble Agah added another in the 24th minute for the Ikolo side.
When it seemed the young and determined Everton team were going to go into the halftime break with a 2-0 victory, Michael Ambas compounded the woes of the church boys with a beauty of a shot from 30 yards from goal to make it 3-0 in 44th minute.
On resumption, Overcoming Lamb Assembly reduced the deficit from a gifted goal from a goalkeeper error, however, the search for goals did not end as they continued to mount pressure on Overcoming Lamb Assembly before it paid off in the 77th minute.
Earlier, at the BDGS centre, Ogbo United came from behind to beat Famgbe FC 2-1 to progress to the round of 32. Goals from Christopher Peter in the 26th minute and Didieikemie Erefagha gave Ogbo United the deserved victory.
Dream Academy, at the Tombia centre, pipped Kpansia 3 FC by a lone goal, while Ikolo FC also progressed to the round of 32 with a 1-0 win over Eleven Planet FC, and Biseni United, at Okordia centre, beat Nigeria Medical Association one-nil.
Bayelsa United Feeders, at the Ogboloma centre, proved that their victory against EGM FC in the opening ceremony of the tournament was not a fluke, as they edged closer to the money-spinning stage with a 5-4 victory over School of Midwifery on penalties after a goalless draw in regular time.
Elsewhere, at the Opolo centre, Rose of Sharon FC brought Oheneze FC’s participation in Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football tournament to an end with one nil victory, while Igbogene FC, at the Ogboloma centre, humbled Polaku FC 2-0.
At the beautiful Swali/Ox-Bow Lake centre, the enjoyment boys, Shegbelegbe FC, came from a goal down to beat Azikoro Youth Movement 2-1, while Ayamalem FC dispatched Divine Grace FC 3-0.
Earlier, at the Ogbia centres, Mover FC of Otuasega, Apret FC of Imiringi and Okodi FC qualified for the round of 32, while Okodi FC stopped 2022 semi-finalist, Anyama FC, to progress to the next phase of the competition at the Otuokpoti centre.
