SAN FRANCISCO, January 04, (THEWILL) – Multiple news reports from Spain say Rafa Benitez has been fired as manager of Real Madrid FC.
The reports say the club has called a news conference for 6.30pm GMT to formally announce the sack and an interim replacement.
Rafa’s fate at the club has been uncertain for a while following Real Madrid FC’s chain of not too impressive results in the Spanish league.

Real Madrid FC has officially announced the sack of Mr. Benitez just seven months after he was appointed to manage the 10-time Champions League Cup winners.
The club named former club captain and ex-France international, Zinedine Zidane as substantive replacement.
Rafa’s last game as manager saw Real draw 2-2 away at Gary Neville’s Valencia on Sunday evening, twice throwing away a lead, leaving the club four points behind leaders Atletico Madrid.
Before his new assignment, Zidane, who made 225 appearances for Real, was managing Real Madrid’s Castilla, the Club’s reserve team, which plays in the Segunda Division B.
