April 11, (THEWILL) – The final round of the Masters on Sunday, was a huge success, with 12.058 million viewers tuning in to watch the action.
This made it the most-watched golf telecast on any network in five years, according to CBS. Compared to the 2022 final round, viewership was up by an impressive 19 percent.
The 2021 Masters was won by Jon Rahm, who secured his second major championship and first Masters victory. As THEWILL reported, it was also a historic moment for Spanish golfers, as it marked the fourth time that a Spanish player had won the prestigious green jacket.
Despite the weather delays and a marathon morning-afternoon golf session on Sunday, viewers remained engaged, and it is impossible to know what the biggest driver of the high viewership numbers was.
The Masters’ success in 2023 is a significant improvement from the lows of 2020 and 2021. The event, in 2020, aired in November due to COVID-19 and was met with less enthusiasm from viewers. Similarly, the 2021 final round only attracted 9.54 million viewers. However, the impressive ratings from the 2023 final round signal a promising future for the Masters and golf fans alike.
