June 07, (THEWILL) – In a landmark deal, Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of highly-rated midfielder, Jude Bellingham.
The Spanish giants are expected to pay Dortmund a staggering sum of over €100 million, making it one of the most expensive transfers in the history of both clubs. While the deal is yet to be officially signed, it is considered a formality, with Bellingham set to undergo a medical examination in the coming days.
Dortmund later confirmed the news of the agreement, revealing that Real Madrid would pay a fixed transfer fee of €103.0m, along with variable transfer fees of up to 30% of the fixed amount. The payment of these variable fees is contingent upon certain sporting successes achieved by Real Madrid and the player over the next six seasons. Madrid’s pursuit of Bellingham has been well-documented, with the likes of Manchester City also expressing interest in the English midfielder.
However, it appears that Real Madrid emerged as Bellingham’s preferred destination. The 19-year-old, who began his career at Birmingham City before joining Dortmund in 2020, has rapidly established himself as one of Europe’s most sought-after midfield talents. He has excelled at Dortmund, captaining the team on several occasions and becoming a regular presence in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
Bellingham will be joining Real Madrid’s impressive collection of young midfield stars, including Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni, as the club continues to build for the future under head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
