June 07, (THEWILL) – Former striker, Serhiy Rebrov, has been named the new head coach of the Ukraine national football team until the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, according to an announcement by the country’s soccer federation (UAF) on Wednesday.
Taking over from interim coach Ruslan Rotan, Rebrov has inked a contract that extends until July 30, 2026. Rotan had assumed the role in February following the expiration of Oleksandr Petrakov’s contract and guided Ukraine in their initial Euro 2024 qualifier, where they suffered a 2-0 defeat against England.
Rebrov, renowned for his playing career at Dynamo Kyiv and Tottenham Hotspur, holds an impressive record of 75 caps for Ukraine between 1992 and 2006. After retiring as a player in 2009, he now steps into the role of head coach, commencing with Ukraine’s friendly match against Germany on June 12, followed by Euro qualifiers against North Macedonia and Malta later this month.
