May 08, (THEWILL) — Renaissance Africa Energy Company, operator of the NNPC/Renaissance/TotalEnergies/AENR Joint Venture, has unveiled an ambitious plan to increase crude oil production to 500,000 barrels per day (bpd) by 2030, while also intensifying healthcare support for host communities in Rivers State.
The company said the production target is aimed not only at increasing oil output but also at creating sustainable economic value, advancing industrialisation and improving the well-being of communities.
Vice President, Relations and Sustainable Development of Renaissance, Igo Weli, disclosed this on Thursday during the flag-off of a four-day community-focused eyecare programme for residents and indigenes of B-Dere and neighbouring communities in Gokana Local Government Area.
The programme, tagged “B-Dere Vision First Plus”, was organised by the Renaissance Africa JV in partnership with Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation.
Represented at the event by the General Manager, Health, Akinwumi Fajola, Weli said Renaissance remained focused on strengthening Nigeria’s oil and gas sector while also promoting domestic gas utilisation as a catalyst for industrial growth.
“You would have read the many media reports that highlight how we continue to support oil and gas production in Nigeria. Along with an impressive target of 500,000 barrels of oil by the year 2030, we continue to bring the spotlight on domestic gas utilisation and how we can make this a catalyst to power our nation’s industrialisation”, he stated.
According to him, the company’s vision is to become a leading African energy company that guarantees energy security in a sustainable manner.
“Renaissance is helping Nigeria reclaim production momentum, boosting national crude output by over 200,000 barrels per day and delivering 1.9 billion cubic feet of gas daily to Bonny NLNG in a sustainable manner”, he added.
Weli also underscored the growing need for preventive healthcare and access to quality eye treatment, noting that millions of Nigerians continue to suffer from avoidable blindness caused by cataracts and uncorrected refractive errors. He cited global health statistics showing that more than 2.2 billion people worldwide live with some form of visual impairment, with nearly half of the cases either preventable or treatable.
According to him, findings from the company’s Health-In-Motion programme revealed that about 36 per \cent of people begin to experience various forms of visual impairment as they advance in age, while nearly 50 percent of the conditions are preventable through early detection and treatment.
The Renaissance executive commended the Rivers State Ministry of Health and the Rivers State Government for their partnership in delivering healthcare services to residents across the state.
He also appreciated the company’s senior partner, NNPC Limited, represented by NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), alongside JV partners TotalEnergies and Aradel Energy Nigeria Limited (AENR), for supporting the programme and other social investment initiatives.
Representing the Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NUIMS, Seyi Omotowa, the Head of Business Services, Nkechi Anaedobe, reaffirmed the joint venture’s commitment to improving the lives of people in host communities.
Anaedobe disclosed that the eyecare outreach was already on course to surpass its initial target of 5,000 beneficiaries.
Declaring the programme open, Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Vincent Wachukwu, urged residents to enrol under the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme to access affordable healthcare services.
Also speaking, Executive Director of Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation, Olukorede Adenuga, described the outreach as a life-changing intervention that had restored sight and renewed hope for thousands of beneficiaries across several communities.
