The Chairman, Governing Board of the Sokoto Rima Basin Development Authority, Hon. Bello Yahaya Wurno, has pledged to align the agency’s activities with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on food security, poverty reduction, and rural economic development.

Wurno made this known in an appreciation message following his appointment as chairman of the agency’s governing board.

He assured stakeholders of his commitment to repositioning the Basin Authority to boost agricultural productivity and improve livelihoods in Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, and Zamfara states.

“Our utmost priority is to meet President Tinubu’s expectations by driving food security, poverty alleviation, and economic empowerment at the grassroots,” he said.

Wurno expressed gratitude to Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu and the state’s APC leader, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, for their role in facilitating his appointment.

“This appointment is not personal but an honour to the entire people of Sokoto State. I seek your continued prayers, support, and cooperation to deliver on this crucial mandate,” he said.

He commended Aliyu for his efforts in securing key national appointments for Sokoto indigenes and ensuring democratic dividends reach all parts of the state.

Wurno also pledged to work with relevant stakeholders to restore the authority’s operational efficiency, stating, “We have a formidable team capable of repositioning the SRRBDA for greater productivity.”

The Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority, established by the Federal Government in 1976, oversees irrigation projects within the Sokoto Rima and Middle Rima river basins.
