April 01, (THEWILL) – Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd.), has lauded the Trans-Kalabari Road project initiated by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, describing it as a critical infrastructure that will ease socioeconomic challenges for riverine communities and boost the state’s economy.
Ibas stated this on Monday during an inspection tour of the ongoing Trans-Kalabari Road project in Rumuolumeni and the Permanent Secretaries’ Quarters in Rumuokwurushi, both in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by the Government House Press Unit, Ibas emphasized the urgency of completing the project, stressing its significance in improving connectivity and enhancing economic activities in the state.
“We recognise the difficult terrain and the communication barriers between communities in this region. This project, once completed, will significantly enhance the economic prospects of Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole,” he said.
He urged contractors to adhere to project timelines, noting that the state government had fulfilled its financial obligations to ensure smooth execution.
“The government has provided the necessary resources, and we expect the contractors to deliver on schedule,” he added.
The N225.1 billion Trans-Kalabari Road project, designed to link several riverine communities to the mainland, will stretch from NNS Pathfinder through Mgbuodohia community to Aker Base Road in Rumuolumeni.
Despite political tensions surrounding Governor Fubara’s suspension, Lubrick Construction Company Limited remains on track to complete the project within 32 months.
Ibas also visited the Permanent Secretaries’ Quarters, another key infrastructure project under Fubara’s administration, highlighting the need for improved housing for civil servants.
“Civil servants need conducive accommodation to perform optimally. We have assessed the project’s progress and received assurances that it will be completed on time,” he stated.
