BEVERLY HILLS, November 04, (THEWILL) – Embattled Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has headed for the Appeal Court as he sought to upturn the verdict of the State Governorship Election Tribunal headed by Hon. Justice Suleiman Ambursa, which recently nullified his election.
In a notice of appeal dated November 3 and filed same day by his lawyer, Mr. Emmanuel Ukala, SAN, at the Court of Appeal, Abuja Judicial Division, Wike is asking the court to set aside the judgment of the Tribunal.
In challenging the tribunal verdict, the governor raised 26 grounds of appeal upon which he sought to set aside the tribunal judgment.
Joined in the appeal is the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate in Rivers State, Dr. Dakuku Peterside with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as respondents.
Asking the court to allow the appeal and to make an order setting aside the judgment /decision of the tribunal, Wike urged the Appellate Court to make an “order striking out or dismissing the election petition filed on May 3 by Peterside and the APC as petitioners at the tribunal.”
