May 07, (THEWILL) – Rodrygo was the star of the show as he scored twice for Madrid, while Lucas Torro slashed the score by half for Osasuna in the final that was played at the Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville, Spain.
Madrid took the lead in the second minute when Rodrygo finished off a Vinicius Junior cross. The best efforts of both sides to find the back of the net for the rest of the first half was fruitless as the final game reached the interval and both sides went down the tunnel for half-time.
It was Osasuna who picked up the momentum in the second half. The Jagoba Arrasate side equalised in the 58th minute when Torro scored a stunning free kick to reward their efforts. However, Madrid regained the lead in the 80th minute with Rodrygo completing his brace in the game. Osasuna had a chance to equalise in stoppage time, but Dani Carvajal made a crucial block to deny Kike Barja.
The win is Madrid’s first Copa del Rey title since 2014. Real Madrid will play Manchester City in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final on Tuesday. Osasuna, on the other hand, will return to La Liga action on Saturday when they face Almeria.
