March 27, (THEWILL) – Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo was in scintillating form, as he helped his side to a comfortable 6-0 victory over Luxembourg in their Euro 2024 qualifier.
The striker opened the scoring with a tap-in after just nine minutes, before Joao Felix and Bernardo Silva added to the tally, while Ronaldo netted his second just after the half-hour mark, second-half goals from substitutes, Otavio and Rafael Leao, completed another routine victory for the Portuguese.
Portugal has now won their opening two games in Group J and sits two points clear of Slovakia in second place. The victory marked the second win for new head coach Roberto Martinez, who took charge of the team earlier this year. The team’s impressive form in qualifying will give them confidence ahead of the tournament next year.
Ronaldo’s performance was a stark reminder of his ability to dominate matches at the highest level. The Portuguese forward was involved in several of his side’s goals and showed his poacher’s instinct with his two strikes.
Portugal will hope that Ronaldo can maintain his form in the tournament as they aim to win the European Championship for the second time.
