October 16, (THEWILL) –Â Mohamed Salah’s goal for Liverpool in a thrilling match at Anfield gave Manchester City their first Premier League loss of the year.
With less than a quarter of an hour left to play, the Egyptian raced onto a long ball from goalkeeper Alisson Becker before slipping a shot past City keeper Ederson to clinch the Reds just their third league victory of the year.
Unfortunately for Pep Guardiola’s side, Phil Foden’s second-half goal was disallowed after a VAR review for a build-up foul on Erling Haaland, which angered the City squad. They could not muster any other goals before the final whistle.
As a result, the blue side of Manchester now trails league leaders Arsenal by four points, while Liverpool climbs to eighth place following a much-improved performance and Salah skips past Steven Gerrard to become Liverpool’s second-highest-scoring player.
Liverpool’s upcoming match is against West Ham United on Wednesday at Anfield. City is at home too against Brighton the following Saturday, where they will be attempting to get back to winning ways.
