December 12, (THEWILL) — Mohamed Salah will feature in Liverpool’s squad for Saturday’s English Premier League fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion following discussions with manager, Arne Slot, on Friday morning. Reports monitored by THEWILL confirmed Slot made the call after determining it served the club’s best interests.
The Egypt international had been excluded from the travelling party for Liverpool’s midweek UEFA Champions League victory over Inter Milan after publicly criticising the club last weekend. Salah accused Liverpool of throwing him “under the bus” after spending last week’s 3-3 draw at Leeds on the bench, marking his third consecutive match without a starting role. He also told reporters at Elland Road that he had no relationship with Slot.
Slot addressed the situation during his pre-match press conference, stating: “I will have a conversation with Mo this morning, the outcome of that conversation determines how things will look tomorrow.” The Dutchman refused to elaborate further, insisting his next comments about Salah should occur with the player present. He confirmed extensive discussions had taken place between Salah’s representatives and the club, adding: “I have no reasons not wanting him to stay.”
The 33-year-old forward signed a two-year contract extension in April that made him amongst the EPL’s highest earners. He will depart for Africa Cup of Nations duty with Egypt immediately after the Brighton match, with his absence potentially lasting until the tournament final on January 18. Salah has scored 250 goals in 420 appearances for Liverpool but has netted only four EPL goals in 13 outings this season.
Liverpool currently sit 10th in the table following two victories in their previous 10 EPL matches. Reports have linked Salah with a potential transfer to Saudi Arabia’s professional league.
