September 30, (THEWILL) — William Saliba has committed his future to Arsenal by signing a new five-year contract that will keep the France international at the club until 2030.
The 24-year-old centre-back agreed fresh terms with Arsenal having initiated discussions in May. His previous deal was due to run until 2027.
Sporting director Andrea Berta praised Saliba’s growth into one of the world’s finest defenders, citing his composure, intelligence and physical attributes.
Manager Mikel Arteta emphasised the defender’s character and connection with supporters, stating that the club would continue working together to challenge for major honours.
Both officials expressed confidence that further improvement lies ahead for the player.
Saliba had attracted attention from Real Madrid, though he made clear in March that his priority was achieving success in north London.
The defender stated his ambition to win significant silverware with Arsenal and become the world’s best in his position, adding that departing without trophies would mean being forgotten by supporters.
The Frenchman joined Arsenal from Saint-Étienne in 2019 and spent time on loan at Nice and Marseille before making his club debut in August 2022.
His breakthrough 2022/2023 season saw him make 33 appearances before a back injury curtailed his campaign in March 2023.
He has since earned three consecutive PFA Team of the Year selections whilst helping Arsenal finish runners-up in the league each time.
Saliba has now made 140 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring seven goals.
Arsenal face Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
