Sanwo-Olu Leads Nigerian Delegation To AFCON

January 05, (THEWILL) – A high-profile group has been picked by the Federal Government to lead the Nigerian delegation to the upcoming TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will begin on January 9 in Cameroon.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, will lead the delegation.

The group also includes the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, the Senate Deputy President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, and the chairs of the Senate and House Committees on Sports, Senator Obinna Ogba and Honourable Olumide Osoba.

Other members include the Federation’s Head of Civil Service, Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare, Minister of Agriculture, Dr Mohammed Abubakar.

They were joined by Ministers of State for Finance, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, of Agriculture, Mustapha Baba, of Science and Technology, Mohammed Abdullahi, the Special Adviser to Mr President on Sports, Daniel Amokachi as well as a representative of the Department of State Services (DSS).

This special delegation will include Sunday Asefun, President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS); Allen Onyeama, Chairman of Air Peace; Bisi Adebutu, Executive Director, Premier Lotto; Emmanuel Orhiakhi, Executive Director, Marketing, Nigeria Breweries; Karl Toriola, Managing Director, MTN; and Alfred Olajide, Managing Director, Coca-Cola.

The entourage is slated to depart for Cameroon on Monday, January 10, ahead of Nigeria’s first game against Egypt in Garoua the following day. Sudan and Guinea Bissau are the other teams in Group D with the Super Eagles.
