February 26, (THEWILL) – Crystal Palace recorded their third English Premier League home victory of the season with an impressive 4-1 triumph against Aston Villa at Selhurst Park on Tuesday. Birthday celebrant Ismaila Sarr netted twice on his 27th birthday, while Jean-Philippe Mateta and Eddie Nketiah also contributed goals in a dominant display.
The Eagles took the lead when Sarr tapped into an empty net after Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez could only parry Chris Richards’ header. Although Morgan Rogers levelled for Villa in the 52nd minute with an improvised finish, Palace quickly regained control through Mateta’s powerful strike seven minutes later.
Sarr extended the advantage in the 71st minute with a sublime volley from Daniel Munoz’s cross before Nketiah registered his first league goal for Palace to complete the scoring. The result maintains Crystal Palace’s position in 12th place, now six points behind 10th-placed Aston Villa.
The defeat represents a missed opportunity for Villa to close the gap on the top four. Villa have now failed to win any of their last four league matches in London, continuing their difficult run in the capital that dates back to January 2022.
Oliver Glasner’s team have now won six of their last seven EPL home fixtures against Aston Villa. The comprehensive victory gives Palace consecutive EPL wins, boosting their confidence as they look to climb further up the table in the remaining fixtures of the season.
