BEVERLY HILLS, February 19, (THEWILL) – There are fears that Boko Haram insurgents may have taken scores of schoolgirls from Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) in Dapchi Town, Bursari LGA, Yobe State when they attacked the town late Monday evening. Details of the incident however were still unclear as at the time of writing this report.
Dapchi is about 100 kilometers from Damaturu, the state capital.
The fleeing terrorists took food and beverages from stores in the school and town as they fired heavily into space with minimal resistance from security forces.
Reports said residents of the town, students and their teachers fled into the bush when the terrorists arrived in about five pick up vans.
The state Commissioner of Police, AbdulMaliki Sumonu, confirmed the attack but said details remained sketchy.
THEWILL recalls that the Boko Haram abducted over 200 schoolgirls from a school in Chibok, Borno State in 2014. More than half of the girls have been freed following negotiations between the Nigerian government and the terrorists.
