November 25, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has ordered an intensified and comprehensive security sweep across major forest corridors in Kwara, Kebbi and Niger States as part of renewed efforts to curb the surge in kidnappings and terrorist activities in the region.
The directive, announced on Tuesday, by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, mandates security agencies to enforce 24-hour surveillance over the expansive forest belts that have become notorious hideouts for criminal gangs.
Dare revealed that President Tinubu has instructed the Nigerian Air Force to ramp up aerial reconnaissance, focusing particularly on the deepest and most inaccessible parts of the forests where terrorists and kidnappers are believed to be operating. The operation, he said, will run round the clock, with aerial units maintaining continuous communication and coordination with troops on the ground.
He explained that joint security forces will be deployed across all operational axes to enhance the rescue of abducted victims and neutralise armed groups destabilising the affected communities.
The Presidency also appealed to residents in the targeted regions to support ongoing efforts by providing timely intelligence on suspicious movements, stressing that community-based information remains a critical tool in restoring safety and order.
The directive underscores the Federal Government’s renewed resolve to dismantle criminal strongholds in the North-West and North-Central regions and strengthen security across vulnerable forest corridors.
