April 23, (THEWILL) — The Senate on Thursday confirmed Muttaqha Rabe Darma as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, clearing the way for his assumption of office as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
The confirmation comes on the heels of Tuesday’s minor reshuffle within the Federal Executive Council (FEC) by President BolaTinubu, which affected leadership in the Finance and Housing Ministries.
According to a statement by the SGF’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, the reshuffle led to the exit of Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
He was directed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry pending the confirmation of Darma, who had been named ministerial nominee and Minister-designate for the portfolio.
In furtherance of the process, President Tinubu on Wednesday transmitted a formal request to the Senate seeking Darma’s screening and confirmation.
The request was read at plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who referred it to the Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration.
THEWILL gathered that during the screening, Darma fielded questions from lawmakers on governance priorities, economic development, public sector reforms and national cohesion.
Senators scrutinised his understanding of the country’s challenges and his readiness to align with the administration’s policy direction.
Lawmakers subsequently commended his composure and depth of insight, noting that his responses reflected a firm grasp of critical national issues and a pragmatic approach to governance.
His confirmation, therefore, represents a key step in reinforcing the Federal Executive Council with leadership expected to drive ongoing reforms.
