SAN FRANCISCO, November 07, (THEWILL) – The Senate plenary on Wednesday turned rowdy when the Minority Leader, Senator Biodun Olujimi alleged that the Social Intervention Programme of the Federal Government, which was introduced by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has been politicised.
Raising the motion of urgent national importance, Senator Olujimi, from Ekiti state, said the funds under the SIF were politically motivated.
She alleged that beneficiaries of the programme were being asked to provide details of their Permanent Voter Card in the application form.
While presenting a copy of the form, she further alleged that ‘I Stand with Buhari’ was written on it.
“I have one of such forms where your BVN number, PVC number, gender and account details must be written.”
Her motion, however, elicited strong reactions from some lawmakers leading to a rowdy session as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers exchanged words across the divide.
This was before the Majority Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, who defended the Buhari-led administration and the programme could speak.
Lawan, insisted that the SIF is computer-based and transparent and criticised the Senator for turning it into a partisan issue.
