Senator Aniekan Bassey

April 11, (THEWILL)- The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East, Senator Aniekan Bassey, has advocated peace and proper integration of member nations of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as the solution for regional growth and economic stability.

Senator Bassey disclosed this in an interactive session with newsmen shortly after the inaugural plenary session of the Sixth Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja.

Bassey, who is the Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development, maintained that if peace and regional integration are pursued, the ECOWAS community would enjoy robust growth and a stable economy.

“As a member of the ECOWAS Parliament, I have seen the challenges militating against the region. I believe that the most important thing is peace, sub-regional integration, and sub-regional unification. We will work towards achieving that as a parliament because our economic growth and stability are hinged on these,” he stressed.

Senator Bassey added that, with a united front, the region can increase its trade volume and tackle the security challenges as well as count its gains in the agriculture and health sectors.
