Senegal Qualifies For 2024 AFCON With 1-0 Victory Over Mozambique

March 28, (THEWILL) – In a crucial qualifying match for the Africa Cup of Nations, Senegal claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Mozambique at the Estadio do Zimpeto in Maputo, on Tuesday evening.

Boulaye Dia scored the lone goal of the match in the first half, helping the Lions of Teranga maintain their 100% record in the qualifying campaign. The result saw Senegal secure their spot in the tournament, becoming the third team to do so.

Despite being beaten 5-1 in the away leg four days ago, Mozambique were determined to put in an improved performance in front of their home fans. However, Senegal dominated the first half, creating five chances and restricting the Mambas to just two of their own.

Mozambique pushed hard in the second half, with substitute Elias Pelembe making a difference, but Senegal managed to hold on for the win. With this victory, Senegal extended their lead at the top of Group L, going eight points clear of Mozambique.

Meanwhile, Mozambique’s hopes of reaching the tournament suffered a major blow, as they sit in fourth place in the group, six points behind second-placed Guinea-Bissau.
