Sepp Blatter will not be attending next week’s executive board meeting of the International Olympic Committee at their headquarters in Lausanne.

Blatter was recently re-elected president of FIFA but, due to the ongoing scandal engulfing football’s world governing body announced earlier this week he will stand down from his role as soon as a successor is named.

As FIFA’s president, the 79-year-old is an invited member of the IOC’s executive board for the two-day summit which begins on Sunday.

An IOC official said: “He informed the IOC president some time ago he will not be attending.”

And a FIFA statement reads: “Back in April the FIFA President informed the IOC that he would not be attending in person the session in Lausanne. His plans have not changed.

“Future travel plans of the FIFA President will only be confirmed in due course.”

Blatter is also staying away from the Women’s World Cup which takes place in Canada from Saturday.
