BEVERLY HILLS, December 02 (THEWILL) – A counter-offensive by the military, lasting well over six hours, has led to the killing of several insurgents in Gulak, a town in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The village head of Krichinga, Mallam Lawal Kanuri, who disclosed this, said the insurgents, who invaded the town, initially succeeded in dislodging the troops by attacking the military formation and burning down the military armoury in Gulak.
Kanuri however disclosed that military succeeded in pushing the insurgents back from Gulak after a reinforcement from nearby Madagali town, explaining that in the crossfire lasting almost six hours, one soldier was allegedly killed while the Boko Haram insurgency lost many of its members.
Confirming the development, a local source, craving anonymity, told THEWILL that a truck conveying large quantity of ammunition and explosives as well as 20 rifles were recovered from the insurgents, who took away the corpses of their comrades as they fled through Bitiku village towards Sambisa.
According to the local source, “The insurgents invaded Gulak over the weekend and sacked the soldiers. All civilians escaped to the mountains and nearby villages. In the morning, we came back but we heard rumours that Boko Haram were coming again, so we fled again.”
The source added that the gunmen came through” Bakin Dose”, a huge rock near Sambisa Forest, taking the soldiers unaware.
However, there was no official confirmation of the gun duel from the military authorities when filing this report.
