June 15, (THEWILL) — Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Philip Shaibu, has congratulated Edo Queens following their emergence as champions of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media, Ben Ogbemudia, Shaibu described the title win as a fitting reward for the team’s commitment, resilience and outstanding performances throughout the season.
According to him, the achievement underscores the growing profile of women’s football in Nigeria and further enhances the reputation of Edo State as a hub for sporting excellence.
He noted that the club’s success reflects the benefits of sustained investment in sports development and the nurturing of young talent across the country.
Shaibu added that Edo Queens’ accomplishment would inspire aspiring female athletes to pursue their sporting ambitions and strive for excellence.
The NIS boss also commended the Edo State Government for its continued support for sports development, noting that the state has consistently recorded notable successes in various sporting competitions.
Expressing confidence in the team’s ability to compete successfully on the continental stage, Shaibu urged the Benin City-based side to remain focused as they prepare to face some of Africa’s leading clubs.
He wished Edo Queens greater success in their upcoming continental campaign and reaffirmed the support of sports stakeholders and Nigerians as they seek to bring further honours to the nation.
