SAN FRANCISCO, December 08, (THEWILL) –  Borno State Government on Saturday donated over N100 million to victims of recent Boko Haram attacks in three Local Government Areas of the state.

Governor Kashim Shettima who made the donation to the victims of  the affected persons at palace of the Emir of Bama, said it was lamentable that the over four year insurgency had rendered many youths and people in the place jobless.

He also presented N1 million to the youth vigilante (Civilian JTF), youth group, elders, Women group and traditional rulers to assist them in coordinating security activities in the area.

The governor had earlier on Friday given out N6 million to victims of Boko Haram attack at Sandiya in Konduga and Sabon-Gari in Damboa Local Government during his visit during to the area.

According to Shettima, “The  N6 million is to be distributed as  follows: N250 to each of the bereaved families while N1 million each is to be given to  the village head and youth volunteer group.”

He assured that government would liaise with the security agencies to discuss how to handle security in the area. He also promised that government would repair the damage electricity in the community soon. He lamented  that many  residents have either lost their homes, businesses and means of survival in the crisis which has nearly brought the state to its  knees.

While imploring those who fled the state at the peak of the crisis to return as peace was gradually returning to the troubled state, Shettima said he took an oath of office as the governor two years ago to work for the people devoid of ethnic, religious and political affiliations.

Responding to the gesture of the governor, the Chairman of Bama Local Government, Usman Shuwa, assured the governor of transparency and fairness in the distribution of the money to the affected persons.

The Shehu of Bama, Alhaji Kyari Ibrahim El-Kanemi, also expressed gratitude to Shettima for the assistance and the visit.
