BEVERLY HILLS, October 13, (THEWILL) – Rice farming in Borno State is set to get a boost as the state government has promised to provide  600 harvesters to rice farmers in the state.

The State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, made the promise on Monday while receiving the leaders  of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, Borno State chapter, who donated food items to support the internally displaced people in the state.

Maintaining that the donation is to encourage commercial agriculture in the state, Shettima said  the harvesters have already been imported into the country as he stressed that agriculture is a sustainable source of job for the people.

He however commended the rice farmers for continuing in the profession despite the security challenges in the state

Speaking earlier, the leader of the rice farmers, Bulama Maina, disclosed that they were moved into contributing their quota  by the suffering of the displaced of thousands of people from their communities.
