March 24, (THEWILL) – Tanzania earned a 1-0 win against Uganda in their latest 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The match, which was played on Friday evening, at the Suez Canal Stadium, saw the visitors grow in confidence as the tie progressed. Although Uganda settled on the ball early in the game, Tanzania remained calm under pressure and looked to hit the home team on the counter-attack.
As the second half began, Tanzania maintained their level of intensity and took the game to Uganda with transitional attacks. The hosts struggled to make way inside the Tanzania half, and the visitors looked comfortable in defensive situations. Eventually, Tanzania took the lead in the 68th minute after a rapid attacking move down the right-hand side of the pitch, with Simon Msuva scoring the decisive goal.
The defeat proved to be a frustrating one for Uganda and coach Milutin Sredojevic, as they were reduced to defending their quarters toward the end of the first 45. Tanzania, on the other hand, bagged maximum points and showcased their attacking prowess.
With the win, Tanzania have given themselves an excellent chance of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament billed for Cote d’Ivoire next year.
