SAN FRANCISCO, July 28, (THEWILL) – Over two months after some gunmen abducted them from their school premises during the morning assembly, six kidnapped students of Lagos Model College, Igbonla, Epe, on Friday regained their freedom.
The senior secondary school pupils, who were abducted on May 25, were rescued from Aboto creek, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo state, at about 3.30pm on Friday.
It was gathered that this development came as a result of talks between the abductors and some government officials from Lagos and Ondo states government and the Nigeria Police.
The students, Pelumi Philips, Farouq Yusuf, Isiaq Rahmon, Adebayo George, Judah Agbausi and Peter Jonah were abducted from their school and when the kidnappers established contact with the parents, a ransom of N400m was demanded but this was later reduced to N100m in view of the inability of the parents to pay.
The abductors were said to have advised the parents to reach out to others and deliberate on how to raise the N100m as well as mounting pressure on the state government to raise the money for them.
THEWILL recalls that the kidnappers had on that fateful morning stormed the school premises, firing gun shots to scare teachers and parents, before whisking the boys away.
Policemen on guard attempted to intercept them and called for reinforcement but the six abducted students were unlucky as the gunmen whisked them away through the waterways.
