South Africa’s Bid To Host 2027 Women’s World Cup Receives COSAFA Endorsement

May 27, (THEWILL) – South Africa’s bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup received a significant boost, as the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) endorsed their proposal.

SAFA President, Danny Jordaan, Vice President, Linda Zwane, and CEO, Lydia Monyepao, presented South Africa’s intention to host the global event at the COSAFA AGM in Sandton, Johannesburg. The SAFA President expressed their plan to engage with all the regions on the continent, starting at home before reaching out to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

COSAFA also gave their endorsement to Botswana’s bid to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027. Jordaan said: “Our intention is to engage all the other regions on the continent and tell them about our intention to Bid for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027.”

The presentation by SAFA CEO, Monyepao, received an overwhelmingly positive response from the attendees, and COSAFA President, Artur de Almeida e Silva, confirmed the regional body’s endorsement of South Africa’s bid. He stressed the readiness of South Africa and the country’s capability to host the World Cup for the second time in Africa, following the successful hosting of the men’s tournament in 2010.

“This is a signal that we are together, and we are moving together”, said the COSAFA President.
