SAN FRANCISCO, November 04, (THEWILL) – Mr. Suleiman Abba, has been confirmed as the substantive Inspector General of Police (IGP) by President Goolduck Jonathan.
Abba was appointed Acting Inspector General of Police a few months back following the retirement of former Police Inspector General, Mr. Muhammed Abubakar.
The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Reuben Abati, told State House correspondents after the meeting of the Police Council inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja, that Abba’s confirmation automatically makes him a member of the Police Council.
Abba, 55, who was appointed Acting Police IG on August 01, 2014, hails from Gwaram Local Government area of Jigawa State, and has degrees in History and Law.
He enlisted in the Nigerian Police as Cadet Inspector on Dec. 31, 1984, and was promoted to Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) on Feb. 22, 2012.
He had at various times, served as Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, FCT Command, Deputy Force Secretary and Commissioner of Police, Rivers State.
