A subdued opening half yielded nothing of note, yet the second period proved dramatically different, with all four goals arriving after the interval in a breathless conclusion.
Raul Jimenez gave Fulham the lead in the 54th minute, meeting a corner from Nigerian international Alex Iwobi with a well-placed header. The Mexican forward then netted his second seven minutes later from the penalty spot, after Brian Brobbey was penalised for pulling Calvin Bassey’s shirt inside the area.
Sunderland responded through Enzo Le Fee’s own spot-kick, briefly threatening a comeback. Harry Wilson then drove forward to find Iwobi, who finished with composure to put the result beyond doubt and cap an influential performance from the Nigerian winger.
