January 02, (THEWILL) – Stanley Nwabali, the goalkeeper for Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has announced the passing of his mother on X.
This tragic news follows closely on the heels of his father, who passed away in November 2024. Nwabali shared his grief with a simple yet poignant message, stating, “Rip mom, worst year of my life already,” accompanied by emojis symbolising tears and heartbreak.
The announcement was made on New Year’s Day, adding an additional layer of sorrow to what is typically a time of celebration. Nwabali, who plays for Chippa United in South Africa, had only recently shared a recap of the successful year 2024, highlighting his contributions to the Super Eagles’ campaign. The sudden bereavement has cast a shadow over his start to 2025.
His mother’s death comes less than two months after Nwabali announced the death of his father, which occurred on November 15, 2024, shortly after a Super Eagles match against Benin Republic during the AFCON qualification round.
