SAN FRANCISCO, July 09, (THEWILL) –Â The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Godwin Obaseki as the Governor of Edo state.
The court, in its ruling on Monday dismissed an appeal filed Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2016 Edo governorship election, challenging the decision of the Appeal Court which affirmed the position of Obaseki as governor.
In a unanimous judgment, a seven-man panel of Justices of the Apex Court headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, held that both interlocutory and main Appeal Ize-Iyamu lodged before it lacked merit.
However, it said it would on July 24, give reasons why it validated the election of Obaseki who emerged on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
