BEVERLY HILLS, June 04, (THEWILL) – The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen has approved the the appointment of Hadizatu Mustapha, a former senior special assistant to the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff, on administration, as the Registrar for the Supreme Court.
She will be replacing the current Chief Registrar, Ahmed Gambo Saleh, who has been appointed the new secretary of the National Judicial Council, NJC.
The Senior Special Assistant to the CJN on media and publicity, Awassam Bassey, said Mustapha’s appointment was contained in a letter signed by the secretary of the Federal Judicial Service Commission, FJSC, Bilkisu Bashir.
“Until her appointment, Mrs Mustapha, was the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Sharia Court of Appeal of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),” the statement read.
Born in Gwoza in Borno State on the 8th August 1961, the incoming Registrar holds a Bachelor of Law, LL.B, degree from the University of Maiduguri, which she earned in 1984 before attending the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos, for her Barrister at Law, BL, programme in 1985.
THEWILL recalls that the Supreme Court had last month struck out an application by Sheriff praying the apex court not to hear the appeal of Ahmed Makarfi-led national caretaker committee of the party. Both Sheriff and Makarfi are laying claim to the leadership of the PDP.
