March 10, (THEWILL) – The Supreme Court has reserved judgment in the appeal filed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, challenging his removal as National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party.
A five-member panel of Justices, led by Justice Musa Uwani Aba-Aji, reached the decision after hearing arguments from the legal teams representing all parties involved in the dispute.
The case stems from a leadership tussle between Anyanwu and Sunday Udeh-Okoye, both of whom laid claim to the position of PDP National Secretary.
Following a ruling by the Court of Appeal in Enugu on December 20, 2024, the party’s National Working Committee officially recognised Udeh-Okoye as the substantive National Secretary on February 12, 2025.
At the hearing on Monday, Anyanwu’s legal counsel urged the apex court to overturn the lower court rulings that removed him from office.
However, the defense countered, arguing that Anyanwu’s request contravened the PDP Constitution.
Before reserving judgment, the court dismissed an application by Anyanwu seeking to stay the execution of the lower court rulings. Justice Aba-Aji struck out the motion after it was withdrawn.
A date for the final ruling will be communicated to all parties in due course.
