May 14, (THEWILL) – The District Head of Odugbeho, in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, Chief Tony Adejo, has been killed by suspected armed herders.
The lawmaker, representing Apa/Agatu constituency of Benue state in the House of Representatives, Hon.Ojema Ojotu, confirmed the death of the district head when he featured on a TVC news programme on Wednesday.
The Chairman of Agatu LGA said Adejo was killed in his farm at Akpa-Otobi by suspected herders who invaded the area at about 10am of Wednesday, May 7, 2025. He said the late Adejo was working on his farm in Otobi, Otukpo LGA, before some criminals herders met him and killed him.
“Agatu people residing and farming in other local government areas should be careful and watchful with their movements. They should liaise with local authorities and know the areas that is safe to work for now, since government is trying to curb insecurity in the whole of Zone C”, he said.
Lamenting the sad incident, Ojotu said the village chief had fled the community to Otukpo over the incessant attacks by suspected herdsmen. According to him, the village head was able to secure a portion of farm land in Otukpo but was unfortunately killed by the same herdsmen on his farm.
“I recently got short information about the death of the district head of Odugbeho, chief Adejo. Also Jeremiah from Ogbokpo. Jeremiah was just buried yesterday. The Chief that ran away from Odugbeho, he ran away from the village to Otukpo Local Government for safety. Right there, he got a piece of land to farm and he was killed right on his farm with Mr Jeremiah”, he said.
