BEVERLY HILLS, April 25, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government has accused former Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam of having a link with some militant groups in the state that recently attacked Zaki Biam, a town in the state.

The government made the claim in a counter affidavit filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) against a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja by Suswam who is being detained by the DSS and is challenging his continued detention without trial.

According to the counter- affidavit, which was served on Suswam’s lawyer, the federal government also claimed to have a security report from the Benue State government stating that the state will become ungovernable should Suswam be released from incarceration.

When the case was called on Tuesday, Suswam’s lawyer, Adedayo Adedeji informed the court that he had served the DSS with his application since April 19, but the DSS just served him with its counter-affidavit on Monday.

He insisted that he hadn’t been able to respond to the claims of the government.
