SAN FRANCISCO, April 14, (THEWILL) – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Monday condemned the dastardly bomb blast that rocked the Nyanya Motor Park on the outskirt of Abuja, killing 71 persons and injuring 124 others..
In a statement issued in Calabar by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Imam Imam, Tambuwal described the attack as cowardly and barbaric. He said all Nigerians must join hands to bring an end to the spate of wanton killings in the country.
According to him, considering the pattern of previous attacks in the country, security agencies should beef up surveillance around motor parks and related areas all over the federation.
The Speaker further urged security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators of the violent act are brought to justice. He said the gains recorded by the security agencies in their battle against terror should be consolidated in order to protect the citizens at all times.
While condoling with the families of those who lost loved ones in the blast, Tambuwal prayed for the quick recovery of those injured.
Also in his reaction, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, also condemned the blast and described ad the mindless, heinous and unwarranted wickedness against innocent lives that have been cut short in another unexplainable orgy of bloodletting.
He urged security agencies to go the extra mile to bring those behind the dastardly act to book while offering deep condolences to the families that have lost loved ones and those injured in the unfortunate incident.
According to him, Nigerians of goodwill join those affected in this national moment of grief as they are not alone in this trying time of violence and insurgency plaguing the country.
He called for prayers for Nigeria and urged members of the public to be extra vigilant and offer necessary cooperation to security agents as they strive to tackle insecurity in the land.
Meanwhile a member of the House representing Tsafe Gusau federal constituency of Zamfara state, Hon. Ibrahim Shehu Gusau, also condemned the blast, saying the people behind the blast do not have any reason to kill innocent people who set out for their daily activities.
Gusau, who chairs the House committee Information Communication Technology (ICT) said the bombing, was a very sad and callous act that underscored the need for the government to be proactive in finding ways of ending the insecurity in the country.
He said there was no justification for the attack on Nigerians, who prepared to go out for their normal businesses.
“I think a lot of money needs to be put into security. No amount of money would be too much for security issues. It is high time that government give it the attention is requires,” he said.
