June 04, (THEWILL) – In response to growing public pressure and concerns over biases, the Taraba State government has reconstituted the Peace and Justice Commission of Inquiry into the crisis in Karim Lamido and other affected areas.
This development was announced in a press release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Gebon Timothy Kataps, and made available to journalists in Jalingo.
The reconstituted commission will now be chaired by Hon. Justice Silas Haruna, with Barr. Gloria Finchur Sonen appointed as Secretary, Mallam Ibrahim Gambo as Assistant Secretary, and Barr. Nierus Johnson serving as Counsel to the Commission.
Other members of the Commission include the Chief of Takum, the State Commandant of the NDLEA, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, and representatives from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Muslim Council, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN), and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
Governor Agbu Kefas had earlier approved the initial constitution of the Commission through a directive contained in a press release signed by Barr. Zainab Usman Jalingo, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Re-orientation.
As part of the state government’s broader post-crisis intervention plan, a special prosecutorial team has also been established alongside the Commission to ensure accountability and justice for those found culpable in the crisis.
