April 01, (THEWILL) – Bournemouth claimed a crucial 2-1 victory against high-flying Fulham on Saturday, with goals from Marcus Tavernier and Dominick Solanke.
Solanke’s goal in the 79th minute sealed a remarkable comeback and lifted Bournemouth out of the relegation zone, while also denting Fulham’s hopes of playing in Europe next season.
Fulham had taken the lead through Andreas Pereira in the 16th minute, but failed to build on their early momentum. Tavernier’s equaliser with a curling left-footed shot in the 50th minute gave Bournemouth a much-needed boost after a lacklustre first half.
Bournemouth manager Gary O’Neil’s halftime substitutions paid off, with Ryan Christie and Tavernier injecting life into their attack. Solanke’s winner sealed the three points and his first home Premier League goal of the season.
The victory lifted Bournemouth to 15th place on 27 points, while Fulham remained in ninth place. Bournemouth will host Brighton and Hove Albion in the EPL on Tuesday while Fulham will host West Ham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
