SAN FRANCISCO, October 23, (THEWILL) – Former World footballer of the year and presidential candidate of Liberia’s Coalition for Democratic Change, CDC, George Opong Weah, on Sunday visited the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, in Ikotun, Lagos.
Weah was accompanied to seek the support of the church in his bid to lead Liberia by a former Liberian warlord and one of the 20 candidates who participated in the first round of the election, Yormie Johnson.
The duo were introduced to the worshippers by the founder of SCOAN, Prophet TB Joshua, who said, “My brother is here today because he loves his country and wants God’s choice for his country.
“He is not here to impose himself. What does God say about his country, Liberia? What is God’s opinion? That is why he is here.
“We are not herbalists or witch-doctors; we are people of God. God’s choice is our choice. We cannot pray against God’s will.
“Without God’s corresponding power, we cannot pray to Him. For every step we take – every movement and action – intimation comes first.
“There must be suggestion from the Spirit to move before we move. If truly I am a man of God, I must hear from God – move or don’t move.
“God’s opinion is what we should seek in our country – simple! God is the answer, the Final,” Joshua said during the sermon.
Weah, who is the leading candidate in the Liberian presidential election held on October 10, will face the incumbent Vice President, Joseph Boakai, in a runoff slated for November 7.
In the result declared by the National Electoral Commission, NEC, Weah came tops with 596,037 votes representing 38.4 per cent of the total valid votes. He was trailed by Boakai, who contested on the platform of the Unity Party, UP, with 446,716 votes representing 28.8 per cent.
Johnson scored 127,666 votes representing 8.2 per cent of the votes, he trailed the opposition leader, Charles Brumskine of the Liberty Party, LP, who scored 149,495 votes, which is 9.6 per cent of the votes.
